Cavana House is a Victorian home built in 1889 by Ontario Surveyor A.G. Cavana.

Many years have passed since the Cavana family moved into their big new farmhouse. The farmland beside the house has long disappeared. The only evidence of the outbuildings and barns that housed Cavana's horses, may be seen in the historical pictures left behind. It's hard to imagine Mississaga Street as a dirt road. The old house at 241 Mississaga St. West would now be considered virtually downtown.

A lot has changed since then but every effort has been made to maintain the integrity of this historical home. Step inside and you are wrapped in the elegance of this wonderful Victorian Home, from its antiques and old wood floors to the high ceilings and twelve-inch baseboards.

From the moment you step on the walkway to enter the main doors you can't help but be impressed with the Stained Glass doors in the vestibule and entrance hall. The first thing you view is the beautiful staircase going up to the second and third floor. You can imagine the Cavana children, after a long day, heading up to their rooms that still have that way back charm. Off the entrance hall on either side are the sitting and dining room. Both have fireplaces with the original in ebony and hand-painted ceramic tiles. The other has been converted to gas.

Furnishings are antiques from around the period of the house. Walls and windows are painted natural to keep the home bright and airy but also show off the architecture of the home. The upstairs bedrooms and ensuites reflect different styles of funishings. The main difference today would be the ensuites. In the1890s a bathroom in the home was a luxury that few people could afford. A bathroom for every bedroom was astounding!

Lee and Joanne take pride in the beautiful restoration of Cavana House. It has all the modern conveniences while still evoking that elegant Victorian past and guests are invited to enjoy its atmosphere. The interior decorations have added to the charm of this beautiful old home. Cavana House operates as a Bed and Breakfast and is open all year. As well the home accommodates small dinner parties, weddings, and Victorian teas. They welcome you to the charm of their century Victorian home.
